Al-Miqdad: Syrian right to recover the occupied Syrian Golan sacred
Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad condemns the recent statements by the US administration that ignores the United Nations' recognition of the Golan as an occupied Syrian Arab land.
Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad stressed that keeping peacekeeping forces is not a substitute for finding a solution to the occupation, stressing Syria's inalienable right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan to the heart of mother, Syria.
During a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific, Mohamed Khaled El-Khiari stressed the importance of UN forces operating in the Golan "Endouf" under the mandate stipulated in the relevant Security Council resolution.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs referred to the Syrian government's consistent position of providing support for the UNDOF force to fully implement the mandate entrusted to it, specifically monitoring the disengagement and detection of Israeli violations of the Separation of Forces Agreement represented by its recurrent attacks on Syrian sovereignty.
Al-Miqdad also restated that he condemns the recent statements issued by the US administration, which ignore United Nations resolutions recognizing the Golan as an occupied Syrian Arab land.
For his part, Lacroix welcomed the Syrian state's assistance and support for the peacekeeping forces, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a good relationship with the government.
In his turn, El-Khiari maintained that the role of peacekeeping forces should be to create an environment of stability and calm while working to find a solution to the conflict.
