Venezuela commemorated the 10th anniversary of its independence with a military parade sponsored by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, where he stressed that his country was determined to restore its economic prosperity despite the sanctions.

"Today's celebration of independence is a commitment to restoring the socialist welfare and economic prosperity established by the Bolivarian Revolution," Maduro said, calling for "overcoming biased sanctions and finding paths for sustainable and robust development so that the economic system meets the needs of our people."

Casting aside Venezuela's President, US President Joe Biden sent a letter to opposition leader Juan Guaido, renewing what he described as "his country's support for the struggle for freedom in Venezuela."
