Armenia and Azerbaijan bump heads.
Armenia accused Azerbaijan on Tuesday of firing at its soldiers, wounding one of them, in the latest clash between the two warring countries in the Caucasus region after the Nagorno-Karabakh war last year.
A soldier was slightly injured in the accident, which occurred near the village of "Veran Shurga" in the "Chigarkunik" province of eastern Armenia, according to the Armenian Chief of Staff Samuel Asatrian.
This area is located on the borders of the Kalbajar District, which has been under the control of Armenia for three decades. Although Azerbaijani forces regained control over the region this fall, Baku denied any involvement in the incident.
"Our forces did not shoot, and there were no casualties among our soldiers," the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement, adding that the injury "may be related to an incident between Armenian soldiers."
Battles broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia last September in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, claiming the lives of 6000 people over 6 weeks.
The fighting stopped after a Moscow-sponsored truce that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced, under which Yerevan ceded swathes of territory it had controlled for decades, including Kalbajar, and allowed the two sides to exchange prisoners and the martyrs.
An armed clash between the two countries' forces last May resulted in the death of an Armenian soldier, for which Azerbaijan also denied responsibility, while Yerevan engaged in the clashes in an attempt to control new areas.
