Naftali Bennett: “Israel" on Alert over Lebanon impasse
In his first statement on the situation in Lebanon, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett says that the country is on the verge of collapsing and that he is closely monitoring the situation.
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said Sunday that “Lebanon is on the verge of collapse”, adding “Israel is watching the situation closely…and we will continue to be on alert.”
At the opening of Sunday’s cabinet meeting, Bennett added that “the citizens of Lebanon are paying a heavy price for the Iranian takeover of the country.”
Several articles in the Israeli press today, Sunday, expressed concern about the effects of Lebanon's political crisis.
Israeli media outlets also claimed that “Lebanon’s power vacuum would allow Hezbollah to possess “a greater role inside the country, and it will also lead to the increase of the Russian and Chinese influence in Lebanon, depriving Israel of additional gains."
Besides, the Israeli news website “Walla! News” quotes Israeli security sources saying that the fall of Lebanon brings “Israel” closer to war, discussing “Israel's” view on the US support for the Lebanese army.
