The Israeli occupation government approved of freezing funds transferred by the Palestinian Authority to Palestinian prisoners.
On Sunday, the Israeli media reported that the Security Cabinet of "Israel" unanimously approved the report presented by Security Minister Benny Gantz, which indicated that the funds transferred by the Palestinian Authority to Palestinian prisoners and their families should be frozen.
According to the office of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, the sum will be frozen from the tax transfers made by "Israel" to the Palestinian Authority.
As a first reaction to the decision, the Head of the Palestinian Detainee Affairs Commission, Major General Qadri Abu Bakr, said that the cabinet's approval of deducting 597 million shekels from Palestinian tax funds is a "crime that reeks of terrorism and piracy."
"These racist acts and the policy of robbing a portion of the State of Palestine's clearing funds, which is estimated at millions of shekels... will only increase the Palestinian people and the Palestinian leadership's determination to serve these fighters who, with years of their lives, are defending a homeland usurped by a dirty occupier that is carrying out all sorts of terrorism against us and our homeland," Abu Bakr added.
The tax transfers are Palestinian dues that Tel Aviv collects on Palestinian imports at a monthly average of $200 million, monthly transferring them to the Authority's treasury.
This is not the first time that the occupation deducted funds from the PA; on July 8, 2018, the Israeli Knesset passed a law to deduct a part of the tax transfers.
