Maduro Contends Full Support for Cuba in Confronting US Intervention
Venezuelan President Maduro asserts his full support for his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel in facing foreign intervention in his country's affairs.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro stressed in a television broadcast his full support for the Cuban people, government, and President Canel, saying that the people of Venezuela and Cuba are brothers, for better or worse, and that Cuba will move on.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel had accused the United States yesterday of pursuing economic strangulation policies to sow social unrest on the island in a bid for regime change.
He also said that his government is attempting to overcome difficulties and emerge victorious in facing US sanctions, which were tightened in the previous US administration of Donald Trump.
Diaz-Canel had called on revolutionary Cubans to take to the streets to face "foreign-supported attempts to destabilize Cuba," considering that "the measures adopted by the United States against Havana aim to place the economy in a chokehold to open the country up for foreign intervention, ending with military intervention."
US State Secretary Anthony Blinken said that Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel is making a "grievous mistake" in blaming the United States for the demonstrations taking place on the island.
In a related context, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced his refusal of any "interventionist approach" in Cuba's affairs, noting that Mexico would be ready to send medicine, vaccines, and food to Cuba if the government requested it.
