Iraq: More Than 50 Dead in Dhi Qar Hospital Fire
A fire broke out in a COVID-19 treatment center at Al Hussain hospital in Dhi Qar, Iraq, leaving more than 50 dead.
The official spokesman for the Iraqi Dhi Qar Governorate Health Directorate, Ammar Al-Zamili, said, "More than 50 dead and 5 wounded were recorded as a result of the Al-Naqa Center fire at Imam Hussein Educational Hospital, which is used to treat Coronavirus patients."

"The fire broke out tonight in the Al Naqa center, which is a COVID isolation ward of the hospital located in Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate. It was brought under control, and the patients were evacuated," Al-Zamili added.

In turn, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior made a brief statement saying, "Civil defense teams are battling the fire accident in the center of Dhi Qar governorate inside Imam Hussein Educational Hospital.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kadhimi held an emergency to determine the reasons behind the fire that broke out in Nasiriyah.

The governor of Dhi Qar also declared early Tuesday today as a day of mourning, according to our correspondent in Iraq.
In April, a fire broke out in Baghdad, in a COVID-19 hospital as well, resulting in 82 dead and more than 40 wounded.
