Brazil Protests against Bolsonaro
Thousands took to the streets of Brazil in protest against Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is under investigation for allegedly overlooking corrupt practices that affected the COVID-19 vaccine deal.
Thousands took to the streets in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, demanding the resignation of President Jair Bolsonaro over allegations of corruption and mishandling the COVID-19 pandemic, calling him a "criminal and a killer."
Demonstrators held up signs reading "corruption" and "genocide," later clashing with the police who used tear gas to disperse the crowds.
Previously, a poll conducted in Brazil revealed that the majority of Brazilians are in favor of impeaching Bolsonaro over vaccine procurement allegations that affected the right-wing President.
The survey conducted by Datafolha, a Brazilian polling institute, found that 54% of Brazilians are in favor of the country's lower house moving to impeach Bolsonaro, with 42% opposing the action.
At the beginning of June, the Brazilian supreme court agreed to conduct a criminal investigation against Bolsonaro concerning corruption cases, the latest of which was the Indian COVID-19 vaccine deal.
There are mass demonstrations all over the country in rejection of President Jair Bolsonaro, who is under investigation for COVID-related corruption charges. In June 2020, the local health authorities in Brazil accused the Bolsonaro government of "hiding the number of COVID-19 deaths" after a Ministry of Health official questioned the official death toll.
