Syria Condemns US Meddling in Cuba's Internal Affairs
Syria stresses that the United States aims to destabilize Cuba and undermine the Cuban people's achievements.
An official source at the Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry reported that Syria has denounced the US meddling in Cuba’s internal affairs.
“The Syrian Arab Republic condemns in the strongest terms the US blatant interference in Cuba's internal affairs, which aims to destabilize the country and undermine the achievements attained by the Cuban people,” the same source added.
Furthermore, the source stressed that “the US unjust blockade and the policy of illegitimate unilateral coercive measures are behind the economic crisis and sufferings of Cuban citizens.”
“The international community must act immediately to put an end to this economic terrorism, which constitutes a violation of the international humanitarian law and basic human rights,” the source said.
The Syrian Arab Republic, according to the same source, expresses its complete solidarity with the friendly Cuban leadership, government, and people, and is confident that Cuba, which has been subjected to an unjust US blockade for nearly sixty years, will be able to overcome the new onslaught and maintain its sovereignty.
The Syrian statement came after Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez accused the US of being personally involved in orchestrating the protests and unrest that have erupted in the country since Sunday.
Rodriguez confirmed on Monday that “US-financed mercenaries have fomented unrest ahead of this weekend’s protests with a media strategy disguised as a social media campaign calling for humanitarian aid”.
