Al-Moussawi to Al-Mayadeen: Washington's Policy Towards Lebanon Aggressive

Hezbollah's MP Ibrahim Al-Moussawi told Al-Mayadeen that Washington's attitudes towards Lebanon are "aggressive," and that Israeli threats are meant to extort additional aid from the US.

Hezbollah MP to the 'Loyalty to the Resistance' bloc in the Lebanese Parliament, Ibrahim Al-Moussawi, spoke to Al-Mayadeen about the new US decision to extend the "National Emergency with Respect to Lebanon" for another year, that this decision will not end in defeat, and will not change the equation.

"The Axis of Resistance is steadfast, will not cave in to pressure, and will not initiate any attacks," he said, adding that the Israeli threats against Lebanon aim to extort additional American aid. "They do not affect the Resistance, rather they reflect fear of the Resistance's capabilities," asserts Al-Moussawi.

He added that the "Israelis want to escalate the situation and heat things up. The Resistance is ready to repel any aggression," ending the interview by stating that the Resistance has a right to defend Lebanon. He also postulates that Israeli aggression is unlikely soon because 'Israel' cannot afford it, as he put it.

The White House had announced today that US President Joe Biden's decision to continue the "National Emergency with Respect to Lebanon" is due to the continued "unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States."

"Certain ongoing activities, such as Iran's continuing arms transfers to Hezbollah — which include increasingly sophisticated weapons systems — serve to undermine Lebanese sovereignty, contribute to political and economic instability in the region, and continue to constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States," the statement read.
