Wendy Sherman, the US Deputy Secretary of State underscored the importance of an "immediate, comprehensive ceasefire to help bring the war in Yemen to an end.”

According to the US State Department, "Sherman discussed topics of fostering peace and security in the area with Khalifa Al-Harthy, the Omani Undersecretary of State for Diplomatic Affairs in Muscat."

The Foreign Ministry added that "The two nations discussed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the United States and Sultanate of Oman."

US President Joe Biden had stated last February that his government will strive to end the conflict in Yemen, emphasizing the cessation of all support for offensive operations on Yemeni land.

US Defense Department spokesman John Kirby said Biden's decision to halt assistance for military operations in Yemen "ends sharing intelligence and advising Saudi forces."

US Senator Bernie Sanders also added that the announcement of the White House to end military support for the Saudi-led war on Yemen is "a tribute to the work of many activists over the years."

Mohamad Abdulsalam, chairman of the Sana'a delegation, claimed in early July that the US is using tactics to aid continued aggression, noting that "The militants whom the United States describes as legitimate fighters in al-Bayda governorate and supports, include Al-Qaeda and ISIS members.”

Abdulsalam added that "In the next few days, you will hear how Washington will regress, ask us to respond to peace, ask for a cease-fire, and say that we are the ones who obstruct peace in Yemen."

The Sana'a government questioned "the credibility of the US statements regarding stopping the war on Yemen." The government indicated that it was "trying to ease the state of global discontent, while tightening the screws on Yemen," stressing "the people's perseverance in the face of the blockade."
