Algerian and Egyptian FMs Meet to Discuss Regional Concerns
Egyptian FM, Sameh Shoukry received his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra on Saturday, as both discussed common concerns, such as Libya, the Renaissance Dam, and Tunisia.
Shoukry said, in a joint press conference with his counterpart on Saturday, that talks are ongoing between Egypt and Algeria to resolve the Libyan crisis within a national framework. He added that there is a measure of optimism regarding the outcomes of the Libyan-Libyan dialogue, which may signal elections in December for parliament and a president.
Shoukry also pointed out the importance of foreign forces leaving Libya, of dealing with militias, and empowering Libyan institutions.
Lemamra, on his part, brought up the "Renaissance dam," and said he believes that the relationship between Nile-basin states is strained, conveying Algeria's will to be part of the solution of all matters that concern "its brothers", calling on Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan to reach "satisfactory solutions" that guarantee the rights of each.
As for Tunisia, both ministers said they are closely monitoring its developments, with Lamamra saying that they are a "purely internal matter".
The Algerian Presidency formerly stated that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had contacted his Tunisian counterpart. Saied told Tebboune that his country is proceeding along the correct path of "democracy and pluralism" and that "important decisions" will be made soon.
