Number of Hunger-Striking Prisoners Rises to 17
As no resolution seems to be in store for the tragedy that is administrative detention, 17 Palestinians continue their hunger strike in the occupation's prisons.
The number of prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli prisons has gone up to 17, 16 of which are protesting their administrative detention. Prisoner Youssef Al-Amer from Al-Naqab prison joined the protestors four days ago.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club clarified in a statement on Sunday that Prisoner Salem Zaydat from Al-Khalil has been on hunger strike for 21 days and can only get around by wheelchair now. Another ten prisoners in Al-Naqab are also in terrible health.
The Prisoners Club said that there seem to be no initiatives for a serious solution for the hunger strikers; instead, the occupation "continues to escalate its policy of administrative detention, and is issuing more administrative detention orders for new inmates."
The Club also expected the number of hunger strikers to increase within the next few days, and some prisoners may also go on hunger strike to support them if the occupation does not comply with their demands.
Forty prisoners have gone on hunger strike since the beginning of the year. The longest of these strikes were performed by Maher Al-Akhras, Al-Ghadanfar Abou Atwan, and Mohammad Al-Zghir, all of whom were protesting administrative detention.
