Myanmar Announces Formation of Interim Government
The State Administrative Council of Myanmar announces the formation of an interim government for the country, assigning the Supreme Commander of the Myanmar Armed Forces and Chairman of the State Council, Min Aung Hlaing, as the country's prime minister.
Myanmar's State Administrative Council, set up by the military, has announced forming an interim government.
The statement revealed that the Supreme Commander of the Myanmar Armed Forces and Chairman of the State Board, Min Aung Hlan, will become the country's prime minister, according to the Chinese "Xinhua" agency.
The military came to power in Myanmar using a constitutional mechanism on February 1, 2021.
Civilian leaders got arrested, and several newly elected members of Parliament were temporarily arrested or detained before the first meeting of the first session of the new call.
It is worth mentioning that the months of protests followed the power shift to the army.
On February 1, Myanmar's army overthrew the government and declared a year-long state of emergency hours before the newly elected Parliament convenes.
State Counselor, Aung San Suu Kyi, and President Win Myint were arrested, along with other senior military officials, for accusations of fraud.
