24 Chadian Soldiers Killed in Boko Haram Attack
An official in the Lake Chad region says that “24 soldiers were killed and others were wounded, and a number of soldiers were distributed throughout the region after fleeing the attack,” while 3 military factions were sent to the site of the attack.
Twenty-four Chadian soldiers got killed in an attack by the "Boko Haram" movement in Lake Chad, reported a senior local official today, Thursday.
"Troops from a returning patrol were resting when they were attacked by Boko Haram", reported the region's deputy prefect, Haki Djiddi.
He added, “24 soldiers were killed and others were wounded, and a number of soldiers were distributed throughout the region after fleeing the attack,” while 3 military factions were sent to the site of the attack.
Army spokesman, General Azem Bermandoa Agouna, confirmed an attack at Tchoukou Telia, an island 190 kilometers (118 miles) northwest of the capital, refusing to give any toll.
"Three factions of the Chadian army joined the elements that were attacked," Mohamed Fadoul Makai, governor of the Buhaira region, told AFP.
The Chadian army, led by then-President Idriss Deby, launched an attack on Boko Haram in April 2020, after about 100 of its soldiers were killed in an attack by the group in March on one of its bases on the Bohoma Peninsula.
Chadian President Idriss Deby was killed one day after his re-election for a sixth term, during battles that took place between the army and rebels in April 2021, and following his death, a military council headed by his son, Mohamed Idriss Deby, took power.
