Taliban may have wreaked havoc.
Local government officials said suspected Taliban fighters killed an Afghan radio station manager in Kabul and kidnapped a journalist in southern Helmand province, the latest in a long series of attacks against journalists.
Yesterday, in a targeted killing in Kabul, gunmen shot Toofan Omar, the station manager of Paktia Ghagradio, and an officer for NAI (SOMA) - Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan.
"Omari was a liberal man" said Mujeeb Khelwatgar, the head of NAI. Moreover, officials in Kabul suspected Taliban fighters had carried out the attack.
Last month, the NAI reported that radical groups in Afghanistan had killed, injured, or abducted at least 30 journalists and media workers this year.
In southern Helmand province, officials said Taliban fighters had seized a local journalist, Nematullah Hemat, from his home in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital on Sunday.
According to Reuters, a Taliban spokesman said he had no information on the two incidents in Kabul and Helmand.
A group of Afghan press organizations has sent a letter to the US President Joe Biden and the House of Representatives, urging them to award Afghan journalists along with assistants special immigration visas.
After taking five capitals of the 34 Afghan provinces yesterday, including Kunduz, the Taliban organization took three more this morning.
The Taliban took control of Kunduz, which they had been besieging for weeks, in a matter of hours; Sari-Pul and Taloqan, the capitals of the two provinces to the south and east of Kunduz, were also taken control of respectively.
