Turkish Defense Ministry: Soldier Killed in Northern Iraq
A bombing hit a Turkish military base in northern Iraq on Thursday, killing a Turkish soldier.
Turkey's Defense Ministry said that a Turkish soldier was killed in a bombing targeting a Turkish military base in Nineveh Governorate, northern Iraq.
Al Mayadeen correspondent reported that three missiles were fired at the Turkish Zlikan Base, which includes a Turkish military force in Bashiqa, Iraq's northern governorate of Nineveh.
Besides, the Turkish army has constantly launched ground and air operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.
As Baghdad relentlessly protests against the Turkish bombardments, Ankara has stressed that it will handle the PKK in these areas if "Baghdad is not able to do so."
This attack follows months of sporadic clashes between the Turkish army and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) members in the Dohuk area, northern Iraq.
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Baghdad previously informed the Turkish ambassador of its condemnation of the Turkish intrusion into its territories.
Earlier, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also expressed strong resentment and condemnation to the ongoing Turkish violations, including the presence of the Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar in Iraqi territories without prior coordination.
