Cuban President Visits the Heart of Old Havana
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel toured the San Isidro neighborhood Thursday, a month after the July 11 demonstrations.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited, on Thursday, the impoverished San Isidro neighborhood, in the heart of Old Havana, where the protesting San Isidro Movement (MSI) was launched, to meet with local authorities and leaders, the Cuban Presidency reported.
“President Díaz-Canel spoke with the heads of the Popular Council, delegates, community, and religious leaders, artists, athletes, youth, and representatives of Local Development Programs,” the Cuban Presidency said via Twitter.

The President's visit comes exactly one month after the July 11 protests.
Earlier, a huge police force was deployed in the neighborhood, where members of MSI garrisoned to demand the release of rapper Denis Solís last November, who was released by the authorities on July 12.
Several members of this Movement, including artists and students, are controlled and financed by foreign forces, according to the government.

The Cuban President, who accuses the United States of having provoked the protests to end the Cuban revolution, urged Cubans “to not act with hate” after a series of incidents that ended with acts of sabotage.
Díaz-Canel said Friday that the United States "has failed in its efforts to destroy Cuba”, adding that “if President Joe Biden had sincere humanitarian concern for the Cuban people, he could eliminate the 243 measures implemented by President Donald Trump, including the more than 50 cruelly imposed during the pandemic, as a first step towards ending the blockade."
