Trump Calls On Biden to 'Resign in Disgrace'
After Washington's rapid and chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, former US President Donald Trump is calling on President Joe Biden to resign.
Former US President Donald Trump has called on incumbent President Joe Biden to resign over the current situation in Afghanistan.
In his statement, released on Sunday, Trump said that "It is time for Joe Biden to resign in disgrace for what he allowed to happen in Afghanistan, along with the tremendous surge in COVID, the border catastrophe, the destruction of energy independence, and our crippled economy."
In addition to his invitation to resign, Trump renewed his claim that Biden was illegitimately elected. In a separate statement, the businessman described the President’s handling of the US troops' retreat from Afghanistan as "legendary," saying that "it will go down as one of the greatest defeats in American history!"
The White House quickly responded to Trump’s accusations, reminding him that his administration was the one that brokered the retreat deal with the Taliban in the Doha agreement in 2020.
The US State Department lowered its flag this morning from its embassy in Kabul after the Taliban reached the Afghan capital and seized the presidential palace. The movement promised to soon declare from there the inauguration of the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan."
In response to the rapidly changing pace of events, the UN Security Council will be holding an "emergency session" on Afghanistan as soon as possible.
