51% of Israelis say US approval not needed to strike Iran
The Jerusalem Post newspaper's opinion poll has revealed that over 50% of the Israelis would support a military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities even without the approval of the US administration.
Israeli media said that an opinion poll conducted by the "Israel" Democracy Institute found that more than half of the Israelis would support a military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities even without US approval.
The Jerusalem Post reported that when Israelis were asked about such an attack, 51% of respondents said that they would support a strike, whereas 31% said they would not, and 18% said they did not know.
"By political viewpoints, 67% of right-wing respondents supported a military strike even without US support, 50% of centrists agreed, and only 37.5% of left-wing respondents agreed."
According to the survey, 54% of Israelis believe Iran poses "an existential threat." Some 25% of respondents view Iran as a “medium danger”, while 13% believe the Islamic Republic poses a “small danger".
The poll was conducted by the Viterbi Center for Public Opinion and Policy Research of the "Israel" Democracy Initiative, on a sample of 614 Israelis between November 29 and December 1.
It is noteworthy that a US official revealed earlier that Israeli officials in Washington are expected to discuss conducting military exercises against Iran aimed at preparing for the destruction of Iran's nuclear facilities if diplomacy fails.
