70% of Germans believe gov unfit for managing challenges: Poll
A majority of Germans, across various demographics, believe that their government is incapable of effectively managing challenges.
A recent poll conducted at the request of the German Civil Service Federation has revealed that 69% of Germans, spanning various population and voter groups, believe that the country's government is incapable of effectively managing tasks and challenges.
The survey, conducted in June 2023, engaged 2,008 Germans aged 14 and older, highlighting a prevailing sentiment of skepticism toward the government's handling of the nation's tasks and problems.
This sentiment has grown from 66% back in 2022, the federation reported.
"A clear majority of respondents, 69%, and a majority in almost all population and voter groups believe that the state is overwhelmed with a multitude of tasks and problems," the federation stated.
In contrast, only 27% of participants hold the view that government authorities are entirely capable of successfully fulfilling their duties and managing challenges.
The poll also outlined specific areas where respondents believe the government's performance is most lacking, with policy on migration ranking at 26%, education at 19%, and the environment at 17%.

The German economy ministry reported yesterday that sustained recovery of the German economy is unlikely to happen in the near months.
"On the domestic front, the expected cautious recovery in private consumption, services, and investment is showing the first signs of hope, which are likely to strengthen as the year progresses," said the ministry in its monthly report.
"At the same time, the still weak external demand, the continuing geopolitical uncertainties, the still high rates of price increases, and the increasingly noticeable effects of monetary tightening are dampening a stronger economic recovery."
The ministry has released earlier a pessimistic outlook for the economy attributing the slump to surging energy prices and elevated interest rates that have adversely impacted various sectors of industry.
