800 migrants arrive in Spain in the last 72 hours
The number of migrants has increased by 3.3% in 2022 year on year.
Spanish media reported on Monday that about 800 illegal migrants from Africa have reached the Spanish coast using dinghies, motor and inflatable boats, and jet skis over the last 72 hours.
The migration flow from Africa has been on the rise since Friday as Spanish law enforcement forces intercepted at least 22 vessels, which were heading to the regions of Almeria, Murcia, Majorca, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Ceuta, and Cadiz, La Razon newspaper reported.
The tensest situation occurred in the Canary Islands on Friday, off the coast of Lanzarote, where the rescue services saved a total of 392 people from eight boats, and at least 170 people were rescued from seven vessels on Saturday, the report said.
Four more boats carrying at least 153 people arrived at different points in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote on Sunday, according to the newspaper.
The number of illegal migrants has increased by 3.3% in 2022 year on year, the report added.
Earlier in August, the European Commission allocated $173.83 million to projects dealing with the reception and return of migrants in EU countries that are on the frontline of migrant arrivals, including Spain, where the aid is set to be earmarked for the expansion of the reception system, including in the Canary Islands, helping to alleviate its overload caused by increased migrant flows.

On Friday, June 24, there was a massive attempt by several hundred migrants to jump over the Melilla fence and cross from the Moroccan side into Spain.
According to previous reports, this resulted in the death of 37 people, with 76 wounded, including 13 in critical condition.
This incident occurred just a few months after the ratification of the new relations between the Spanish government and the Moroccan regime.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez articulated his full support for the border guards' actions, demonizing the refugees as attackers infringing on the "territorial integrity" of Spain.
