US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that he would visit Qatar and Germany to continue efforts to relocate Afghan refugees, saying that his nation, despite previous hurdles, continues to execute the visa system for the United States.
Blinken divulged that he will meet with the leaders of Qatar to express his gratitude for their help with the airlift, additionally meeting with Afghans who are now in Doha awaiting to be safely transitioned to the US.
At the Ramstein military base in Germany, Blinken will meet with Kabul evacuees as well as the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. A virtual ministerial meeting in Afghanistan is scheduled, with representatives from more than 20 countries that assisted in resettlement efforts.
Although the evacuation of the remaining Americans comes with some logistical problems, Blinken assured that every case has been categorized and been appointed a manager.
According to Blinken, the US does not have a confirmed picture about the formation of Kabul's future government, but the internal expectations are that it represents the largest segments of society, adding that the US is waiting for clear policies and directions.
He added that the Taliban movement has sought exemptions from international sanctions, stressing that their internal behavior will be what determines their fate, including ensuring freedom of departure and movement for those who desire.
