A Palestinian Resistance guard killed an Israeli captive in the Gaza Strip to avenge his children who were killed in an Israeli-committed massacre, an internal investigation launched by Hamas' al-Qassam Brigades found.

The spokesperson for the al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Obeida, made the announcement on his Telegram channel on Thursday, stressing that the incident does not reflect the morals of the Brigades, which are based on the teachings of Islam.

"After investigating the killing of an enemy (Israeli) captive by his guard, it was found that the guard, who was assigned to protect the captive, acted in a vengeful manner contrary to [the command's] instructions after receiving news of the martyrdom of his two children in one of the enemy’s massacres," Abu Obeida stated.

The spokesperson said that al-Qassam Brigades will be more stern in their instructions to assigned guards, as the incident has been repeated twice recently.

Abu Obeida held Israeli authorities responsible for the harm that Israeli captives are being subjected to, stressing that the incidents occurred after the Israeli occupation crossed all humanitarian red lines and committed acts of genocide against the Palestinian people.

Atrocious Israeli massacres threaten captives' lives

On August 12, the spokesperson said two fighters assigned to guard Israeli captives opened fire at the captives, resulting in the death of one male captive and the serious injury of two female captives. Abu Obeida said that efforts were underway to save the lives of the injured captives.

The news came just after Israeli occupation forces committed a horrific massacre in the al-Daraj neighborhood in Gaza City, targeting civilians in the al-Tabieen school many of whom were performing the dawn prayers. Scenes from the aftermath of the Israeli airstrike highlighted the criminal behavior of Israeli occupation forces, which justified the attack by alleging that it killed 14 Palestinian Resistance fighters.

Authorities in Gaza said that the bombing was so atrocious and that bodies were so severely dismembered that they accounted for a single martyr for 70 kg worth of scattered and charred body parts. At the time of the attack, authorities said that at least 93 Palestinians were killed, including children and women.

More recently, al-Qassam Brigades' Military Media Unit followed up Abu Obeida's remarks with a picture depicting a dead captive with the following caption, "Your Brutality is an Imminent Danger to Your [captives]."
