AEOI: To expand Bushehr NPP energy production with Russian assistance
Iran signs a contract with Russia, by which the power generation capacity of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant will rise to 3,000 megawatt-hours.
Deputy Chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Pejman Shirmardi, confirmed Tuesday that in total, 80 million barrels of crude oil were saved as a result of the operation of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant until June 14, 2022, IRNA reported.
During a conference held at the Tehran University, Shirmardi stressed that the power generation capacity of the Bushehr station is 1,000 megawatt-hours, making clear that it is possible to prevent most of the greenhouse gases emitted into the environment by using nuclear power plants.
Shirmardi pointed out that Iran has signed a contract with Russia, by which the power generation capacity of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant will rise to 3,000 megawatt-hours.
In late January, the AEOI announced that Iran and Russia have discussed increasing cooperation in the nuclear energy sector, including expanding Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant.
Negotiations are underway for the construction of the second and third units at the Bushehr power plant, whose expansion will allow Iran to produce at least 10,000 megawatt-hours of nuclear energy.
Russia had helped Iran build the Bushehr power plant, which was equipped with a 1,000 megawatt-hours reactor and delivered in 2013.
