Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi discussed strengthening diplomatic relations with Syria during a phone call with the Syrian transitional government's Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shiban, according to the Afghan Foreign Ministry’s press service on Saturday.
Muttaqi congratulated the new Syrian government on assuming power, commended its approach to general amnesty and governance, and expressed optimism about establishing consistent diplomatic ties between the two nations, stated the ministry's deputy spokesperson, Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal.
According to a statement cited by the Afghan news agency Ariana News, the Syrian foreign minister expressed optimism about a bilateral consultation meeting between Syrian and Afghan delegations.
Last week, UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and al-Shiban explored ways to bolster the "strong fraternal ties" between their nations and peoples in areas of mutual interest.
During the call, Al Nahyan emphasized the "importance of preserving Syria's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity," reiterating the UAE's support for efforts, aimed at achieving a comprehensive and inclusive transitional phase that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people for security, development, and dignified life.
He also highlighted the UAE's commitment to instilling hope for a prosperous future for the Syrian people, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) noted.
