The Russian Defense Minister says Ukraine failed to reach its goals in the offensive as it suffered "significant and incomparable" losses.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday that Kiev has launched a long-promised offensive in different sectors of the front in the past three days.
"Within the past three days, the Ukrainian regime has launched a long-promised offensive in different sectors of the front, concentrating a large amount of equipment and human resources for this purpose," Shoigu said.
The Russian Defense chief pointed out that the Ukrainian forces tried to attack in seven directions with five brigades on June 5 but were stopped after losing over 1,600 soldiers and 28 tanks.
According to Shoigu, Ukrainian forces suffered "significant losses: more than 1,600 military personnel, 28 tanks, including 8 Leopards and 3 AMX-10 wheeled tanks, 136 units of other military equipment, including 79 foreign."
He added that Ukraine failed to reach its goals in the offensive as it suffered "significant and incomparable" losses.
In the same context, Shoigu said Ukrainian troops attempted an unsuccessful offensive in five directions on June 4 but did not succeed in any of them, having lost 300 soldiers.
"On June 4, the forces of the 23rd and 31st mechanized brigades of the Ukraine military attempted an offensive in five directions. The enemy did not achieve success in any of them, suffered significant losses — 300 soldiers, 16 tanks, 26 armored combat vehicles, 14 cars," he indicated.
The Russian Defense Minister confirmed that 71 Russian soldiers were killed during the Ukrainian offensive, adding that the military also lost 15 tanks and 9 infantry fighting vehicles.
Elsewhere, Shoigu highlighted that Ukraine has lost up to 3,715 military in three days of fighting, as well as 52 tanks and 7 planes and helicopters.
