Ahmad Abu Ali, Palestinian prisoner killed by medical negligence
The Palestinian Prisoners Club mourns prisoner Ahmad Abu Ali from Yatta, Al-Khalil, who died after his health deteriorated drastically in Al-Naqab prison.
Palestinian prisoner, Ahmad Abu Ali, 48 years, from the city of Yatta, near Al-Khalil, was martyred at dawn today, in “Soroka” Hospital, as a result of medical negligence.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club said in a statement that the prisoner Abu Ali, father of nine, detained since 2012, was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He only had two years left before his release. Throughout his imprisonment years, he suffered from several diseases, chronic heart problems, and diabetes.
According to the Prisoners Club, the occupation prison administration deliberately delayed providing him with the necessary treatment, conducting medical examinations, and following up on his health status, which led to his martyrdom today.
The Club held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for his martyrdom and for all the sick and wounded prisoners inside Israeli occupation prisons, saying that what happened with Abu Ali is yet another crime to be added to a long list of crimes waiting to be committed by the occupation with systematic tools.
The crime of medical negligence is the most prominent and dangerous of these tools, and it was the main reason behind the death of many prisoners during the past few years, the Club added.
With the martyrdom of prisoner Ahmad Abu Ali, the number of martyrs of the Captive Movement rises to 235 since 1967, 75 of whom were killed by deliberate medical negligence, knowing that dozens of ex-prisoners were martyred as a result of diseases they were inflicted with while imprisoned.
It is noteworthy that the number of sick prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons has reached more than 600, and their health conditions have been diagnosed, including 24 suffering from cancer and tumors of various degrees.
Not an isolated incident
Palestinians are constantly subjected to Israeli aggression and cruelty behind the walls of Israeli occupation prisons. Some liberated inmates with unattended medical issues are reported dead shortly after their release as a result of neglect and abuse, while others are reported dead inside the prison.
Brutal policies to weaken both the will and the body are a terrible dualism used in the context of an Israeli political and legal system that legitimizes torture and psychological pressure on Palestinian prisoners.
One of the most famed cases was reported last December after a Palestinian prisoner diagnosed with cancer was medically neglected, resulting in his death.
Nasser Abu Hmeid had been martyred in "Assaf Harofeh" Hospital due to the deliberate medical homicide policy followed by the Israeli prison service.
The ailing detainee had suffered for a long time before his life was claimed by negligence.
"Israel" violates the Fourth Geneva Convention and others
Prisoners are subjected to systematic cruel physical and psychological torture, which harms and weakens their bodies. These methods include denying access to proper medical care, delaying treatment for sick and injured prisoners, oppression, humiliation, and torture, followed by harsh interrogations.
Meanwhile, the administrations of Israeli occupation prisons continue to postpone the transfer of incurable patients to hospitals, and if they are transported at all, it will be with their hands and feet chained, not to mention the severe and cruel treatment they are exposed to.
According to the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees' Affairs, unwell or injured detainees are transferred in filthy closed automobiles rather than sanitized ambulances.
Numerous variables lead to the policy of willful medical carelessness, including delaying treatment and committing medical crimes. One factor includes the refraining from maintaining hygiene in jails, which is vital for the well-being of ill patients. Another factor is cell overcrowding and the lack of isolation facilities for patients with infectious disorders, such as acute and contagious viral intestinal infections and scabies, which endanger the health of fellow inmates.
Adding salt to injury, auxiliary medical supplies for prisoners with specific needs, such as prosthetic limbs for amputees, medical eyewear, and breathing devices and nebulizers for patients with asthma, chronic bronchitis, and other pulmonary disorders, are not available in Israeli prisons.
