Al-Assad to Aoun: Lebanon's stability in the interest of Syria, region
Former Lebanese President General Michel Aoun visits Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on Tuesday in the Syrian capital.
Former Lebanese President Michel Aoun visited Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on Tuesday in Damascus.
Aoun arrived in Damascus, Syria, earlier today to meet with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
It was also reported that Aoun was accompanied by former Lebanese Minister Pierre Raffoul, and they were received on the Lebanese-Syrian border by the former Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon, Ali Abed Al-Karim Ali.
During their meeting, Al-Assad expressed that he sees Lebanon's strength in its political and economic stability and that the Lebanese people can bring about stability through dialogue and agreement.
Al-Assad went on to say that the General and former President played a crucial role in maintaining a fraternal relationship between the two nations, which was for both of their benefits. He expressed confidence in Lebanon's capability to overcome its challenges and problems.

He explained how Syria and Lebanon could not consider that their challenges are "isolated" from one another, noting how the recent Arab rapprochement and Syria's rejoining of the Arab League are things that will bring about benefits to both Syria and Lebanon.
Gen. Aoun, on his part, stressed that the Lebanese people adhere to their national unity despite all circumstances.
He also considered that Syria has overcome its difficult challenges thanks to the awareness of its people and their faith in its army and leadership.
The former Lebanese President underlined that Syria’s prosperity will have a positive impact on Lebanon and its people.
Aoun also emphasized that the Lebanese people would maintain their national unity regardless of the circumstances.
He also believed that Syria had conquered the tough times it went through due to its people's understanding and trust in its army and government.
