Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad said on Monday, during a meeting with members of the Secretariat-General of the Union of Palestinian Communities and Organization in Europe, which held its fifth yearly congress in Damascus, that any success for the Palestinian cause is a success for Syria.

Al-Assad further stressed that Syria's relationship with the Palestinian cause is not limited to geography or ideology, rather it is an essential relationship that is also interest-bound.

The Syrian president said the Palestinian cause is strongly present on the international scene thanks to the efforts of loyal Palestinian abroad, the struggle of the Resistance in Palestine, and the awareness of the coming generation for the importance of its cause, its defense of it, and its increasing connection to it.

He also considered that the essential matter in the work of Palestinian communities and organizations should rely on preserving identity and on collective memory through future generations so that the cause remains alive with them, not to mention working on refuting the lies that attempt to portray the Palestinian people as terrorists.

The delegation thanked President Al-Assad, saying that the success of their conference is due to the true support Syria gives to the Palestinian cause, adding that Syria hosting the conference this year and in years past and giving Palestinians living within its borders their full rights show "the nobility of the Syrian people."

The delegation also said that their defense of Syria also constitutes a defense of Palestine and pointed out that the war that the Syrian people are subjected to exposed the false Western claims of their defense of freedoms and human rights.
