Al-Burhan: Sudanese Army to Leave Politics after 2023 Election
The head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan says Sudan would not reverse reforms by reinstating subsidies.
The Sudanese army will leave the political arena after the 2023 elections, Sudanese Army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan told Reuters on Saturday in an interview.
Al-Burhan added that the former ruling party, National Congress Party, would not be part of the transitional process.
Regarding a Russian naval base in Sudan, al-Burhan said the deal was under discussion. However, he noted that relations with Russia were strong.
International economic support would return through a civilian government, al-Burhan said, adding that the country would not reverse reforms by reinstating subsidies or returning to printing money.

Sudanese people took Tuesday to the streets in Sudan in a march organized by the Sudanese Professionals Association, the Sudanese Communist Party, and the resistance committees in rejection of the recent political agreement between al-Burhan and Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok.
