Al-Burhan Names New Sovereign Transitional Council
The Sudanese TV said Sudan's army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan named a new transitional council in the country.
Sudan's military commander General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan named Thursday a new sovereign transitional council after last month's military takeover, state television reported.
The Sudanese newspaper reported that army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan formed a new transitional council, which is the body that rules the country alongside the government, which has been the case since the 2019 coup that toppled al-Bashir's government.
"The commander-in-chief of the armed forces issued a constitutional decree to form the Transitional Sovereign Council," al-Burhan said in a statement.
State TV reported that the general remained the council's chair, while Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo remained the council's vice-chair.
The new council has 13 members, nine of which were members of the former council, while the four other members - representatives of the Forces of Freedom and Change - were dropped.
One member from east Sudan has yet to be named pending consultations, state television said.
