Algeria called on Tuesday for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the situation in Gaza, as "Israel" persists in its war on the besieged Palestinian Strip.

The meeting is expected to take place on Wednesday.

Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ammar Benjamaa, emphasized that Security Council resolutions explicitly prohibit the use of starvation as a weapon of war.

Last week, during his speech before the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, Benjamaa stressed the need for the Security Council to act decisively to preserve what remains of its credibility and impose a ceasefire in Gaza, given that "Israel" entity is using starvation as a weapon of war.

The Algerian diplomat's remarks come against the backdrop of "Israel's" ongoing strict siege on northern Gaza, particularly the Jabalia refugee camp, which is now in its 12th day.

The Director-General of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza Dr. Munir al-Bursh reported that over the past 11 days, 350 martyrs and hundreds of injuries have been received by hospitals in northern Gaza, as Israeli aggression continues.

Al-Bursh further noted that medical supplies in hospitals are critically low, with a shortage of essential drugs, including anesthetics, while intensive care units have ceased operation due to fuel shortages. He confirmed that no aid has entered northern Gaza for the past 11 days.

'Clear-cut campaign of extermination'

A couple of days ago, the Gaza Government Media Office pointed out that the Israeli occupation military has been waging a "clear-cut campaign of extermination" in the framework of an ongoing genocide in northern Gaza.

In a statement, the Media Office said the occupation forces are preventing medical and civil defense teams from recovering the bodies of dozens of martyrs from the streets and roads, while actively working to completely destroy the healthcare system and hospitals in a deliberate, calculated, and systematic manner.

This is being carried out with full support from the US administration, "which endorses and is actively orchestrating this genocide, providing full cover for the occupation's massacres," the statement indicated.

According to the Media Office, "The Israeli occupation military is committing crimes against humanity, deliberately killing civilians by bombing shelters and displacement centers and committing horrific massacres against civilians by intentionally targeting gatherings of women and children."
