Algeria: Presidential pardon for 14,000+ prisoners on Independence Day
Algeria's President issues a presidential pardon on the occasion of Algerian Independence Day, as the country prepares for the largest military parade in 33 years.

Algeria announced a presidential pardon for more than 14,000 prisoners on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the country's independence from France.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune decreed on Monday the pardon for five categories of prisoners, which included amnesty procedures as stipulated by the constitution.
The north African country is preparing to conduct a military parade, considered the largest in its history - with the participation of the air, land, and naval armed forces - in the presence of delegations of heads of state and government from various countries.

On Tuesday, Algeria will begin its Independence Day celebrations with an unprecedented military parade in the capital, Algiers, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of colonialism after 132 years of French colonialism.
Since Friday, the Algerian authorities have closed the main entrance to the east of the capital along a length of 16 km to allow the army to conduct exercises for the major military parade, which will be the first in 33 years.
In the same context, a special logo designed for the occasion has been appearing for weeks on all Algerian TV channels. The logo shows a circle surrounded by 60 stars, and the phrase "A glorious history and a new era."

After a seven-year war between the Algerian resistance and the French army, the signing of the historic Evian agreements on March 18, 1962, paved the way for the declaration of Algeria's independence on July 5.
Algeria's independence was declared days after a self-determination referendum in which 99.72% of voters supported independence from France.
