Algerian FM denies Saudi mediation with Morocco
The Alerian Foreign Minister stressed that Algeria's decision to completely severe its diplomatic relations with Morocco was taken based on strong objective reasons.
Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra denied on Saturday the existence of any mediation between Algeria and Morocco, considering that those who caused the severance of relations must bear the responsibility.
In a statement, Lamamra indicated that the Algeria-Morocco relations file does not tolerate any form of mediation, pointing out that his statements come regardless of the strong relations that bind Algeria to some parties, in reference to Saudi Arabia.
A few days ago, Moroccan media reports said that Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan offered Riyadh's mediation in the Moroccan-Algerian crisis, which Algeria totally denied.
On Saturday, Lamamra stressed that Algeria's decision to completely severe its diplomatic relations with Morocco was taken based on strong objective reasons and that the side that sabotaged the relations between the two countries is responsible for reforming them.
The Algerian Foreign Minister also assured that Algeria has several projects and agreements with Saudi Arabia, without involving the Moroccan file in these relations.
Algeria severed diplomatic ties with Morocco in late August 2021, over "hostile actions" following several months of high tensions between the two Arab nations.
Three days later, on August 27, Morocco responded to the Algerian decision by closing its embassy in Algiers.
