The National Assembly Bureau, led by Speaker Azzouz Nasri, issued a strong statement on Tuesday condemning what it described as a deliberate provocation by members of the French Senate against Algeria.
The bureau expressed "deep resentment and utter disapproval" at what it views as a new deviation in Algerian-French relations, pointing to extreme right elements within the French political establishment as the primary source of tension.
According to the Algerian newspaper Al-Bilad, the statement noted that some parties in the French Senate, known for their far-right affiliations, have been contributing to a "renewed, deliberate provocation" toward the Algerian nation.
These actions undermine mutual respect and cooperation between the two states.
Speaker Azzouz Nasri highlighted "successive scandals and lapses" within segments of the French Senate, criticizing the Senate's alleged openness to hosting individuals affiliated with designated terrorist entities, warning that such actions disregard the repercussions on current and future bilateral ties.
"The advocates and supporters of the extreme right in official France... have begun to insult and interfere in Algeria's internal affairs deliberately," the statement read, accusing them of seeking to exploit sensitive national matters and manipulate issues related to Algeria’s unity for political gain.
The National Assembly underscored that independent Algeria has consistently rejected external interference in its internal affairs. The statement reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to democratic values and the rule of law under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
It emphasized that Algeria is advancing its democratic process through participatory governance, while remaining vigilant against any encroachment on its national sovereignty.
The statement concluded with a stern warning that Algeria "will not forgive any malicious or soft interference," even when it is disguised under the pretext of defending human rights or freedoms.
The Assembly placed responsibility for any further deterioration in Algerian-French relations on those who "do not blink or close their eyes" to the damage caused by such provocations.
