Amir-Abdollahian: Iran should attain economic benefits from Vienna talks
Iran says its negotiating delegation is prepared to stay in Vienna until a satisfactory agreement is reached.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian stated, on Monday, that the new round of discussions will begin in Vienna today on the basis of a new joint document that includes major Iranian requests for the easing of sanctions, such as guarantees and verification.
The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted Amir-Abdollahian as saying: “Today, we have a mutually acceptable document on the negotiating table, which we consider as the (result of) documents of December 1 and 15, about both the nuclear issue and the sanctions.”
The most significant issue in the new draft, the top Iranian diplomat added, is obtaining sufficient guarantees that Iran would be able to sell its oil without any limits imposed. This would allow Iran to receive money directly in its national banks and in foreign currencies which would revitalize different sectors.
Furthermore, he also stressed the necessity of receiving all the aspects of economic benefits from the agreement, adding that Iran is currently working on setting a timeline for talks with Saudi Arabia.
The new Iranian administration offered two separate proposals on the lifting of US sanctions and Iran's return to its nuclear commitments under the JCPOA during the previous round.
Citing observers, Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported that Iran entered the current round of talks with a strong position, indicating that the ball is now in the West's court.
Furthermore, a source close to the Iranian delegation to Vienna stated that formal issues were agreed on in the previous session of the talks.
According to IRNA, an anonymous source close to the Iranian negotiating team stated that they will not be swayed by "artificial timetables" and are willing to stay in Vienna until a favorable agreement is reached.
Several European countries - namely the United Kingdom, France, and Germany - are trying to obstruct the Vienna talks ahead of the Joint Commission meeting, an Iranian source told IRNA on Friday.
On his account, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Iran is facing a media war initiated by some parties in every round of the talks, in which the E3 has a hand, noting that pessimism and optimism regarding the negotiations are part of the psychological war.
