Amir-Abdollahian, Lavrov intend to revive Iran nuclear deal
In a phone call on Monday, foreign ministers Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Sergey Lavrov affirm their intention to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In a phone call on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian affirmed their intention to resume the Iran nuclear deal, in their latest exchange of views regarding nuclear talks between Iran and P4+1, which aims to remove crippling sanctions against Iran.
Both parties affirmed the common determination to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in its original, balanced form, which was supported by the United Nations Security Council, stressing that this is the only correct way to ensure the rights and interests of all parties involved in the comprehensive agreements.
Yesterday, in an interview for Al Mayadeen, Iran's lead negotiator in the Vienna talks, Ali Bagheri Kani, considered that the path Iran followed during the negotiations was a successful one, noting that the negotiations during the previous days were focused on setting a framework for discussing the disputed points to speed up reaching an agreement.
Kani asserted that Iran came to the negotiation table willingly and was not compelled in any way, which should further push the other parties to deal with the negotiations in a logical and creative fashion.
Today, the Al Mayadeen correspondent to Vienna reported that things may be headed toward serious negotiations regarding the nuclear agreement.
He added that meetings taking place on Monday will be aimed at removing existing obstacles, detailing that many issues still lack a serious approach, such as the sanctions imposed on Iran by the former Trump administration.
Furthermore, also earlier today, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the likelihood of reaching an agreement has increased, adding that Iran's proposals reflect the utmost seriousness to reaching an agreement on restoring the JCPOA.
