Arab League affirms continued support for Iraq amid Israeli threats
Arab League participants condemn Israeli threats against Iraq, vowing immediate action to halt the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East.
The Arab League has reiterated its unwavering support for Iraq in the face of Israeli threats of military action against the country, urging immediate international intervention to halt the occupying regime's ongoing acts of aggression in the region.
The appeal was issued during an extraordinary session of the League of Arab States Council, chaired by Yemen on Sunday, where permanent delegates discussed strategies to address Israeli threats against Iraq.
In a statement, meeting participants condemned the Israeli occupation's efforts to escalate the war in the region, emphasizing the importance of supporting Iraq to maintain its territorial integrity and sovereignty. They also urged the Arab League's Secretary-General to communicate the organization's stance to the United Nations Security Council, expressing solidarity with Iraq and firmly opposing the recent statements made by the Israeli foreign minister.
The Arab League also stressed the urgency of taking immediate action to halt the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East to preserve global peace and security.
"The support of the Arab League and all brother countries is recorded in favor of Iraq and shows the extent of their confidence and permanent and continuous support to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty and to support the Iraqi government," Mohannad Mohsen Alwan, the Chargé d'Affairs at the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo, said.
He went on to say that the Israeli regime is trying to fabricate excuses to expand its aggressive practices in the region, stressing that "the Zionist entity violates laws, charters, and norms."
"The serious political administration of Iraq shows the extent of its commitment to international conventions and forums," Alwan said.
Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani slammed a letter sent from "Israel" to the Security Council as "efforts to expand the war," affirming that it "represents a pretext and argument to attack Iraq and to achieve the entity's ongoing efforts to expand the war in the region."
"Iraq rejects these threats, the decision of war and peace is a decision in the hands of the Iraqi state, and no party is allowed to confiscate this right. Iraq rejects entering into war, in addition to its steadfastness in the principled position to end the war and seeking to provide relief to the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples," he stated.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar addressed the President of the United Nations Security Council, Barbara Woodward, pleading for the intervention of the international community to stop the military operations carried out by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq against the Israeli occupation.
According to the letter, Sa'ar relayed "Israel's" grave concerns regarding the increasing intensity of the Iraqi Resistance's operations, claiming they violated international law and risked dragging the region into further escalation and violence.
It is worth noting that the Islamic Resistance in Iraq launched its military campaign to support the people in Gaza, and later Lebanon, as the Israeli occupation intensified its genocidal war in Gaza and expanded its aggression to Lebanon. The Iraqi Resistance has been targeting Israeli military assets in occupied Palestine, recently escalating its operations as "Israel" intensifies its aggression.
