Armed conflicts in Aden jeopardize air traffic in airport
Violent confrontations between two security forces in Aden over incentives and salaries adversely affect air traffic in Aden International Airport.
Confrontations between two security forces disrupted Sunday air traffic at Aden International Airport in Southern Yemen.
A force of Aden's emergency battalion protested against their dismissal and prevented the committee responsible for paying salaries from working before confrontations took place between that force and another in the east of the city, a local official told Sputnik.
According to the same source, the confrontations saw the two parties to the conflict using rocket-propelled grenades that injured five and disrupted air traffic in Aden International Airport, which is close to the place in which the confrontations took place. One flight coming from Cairo had a lot of difficulty landing.
The fighting also closed several main roads between the city's districts, making commuting very difficult and nearly impossible.
The situation in the vicinity of the city's airport was very tense in November in light of employees protesting for their salaries, demanding they be paid their full wages.
Aden and other cities and governorates under the control of the Saudi-backed Hadi forces are suffering from very bad economic crises, prompting the Yemenis to protest against the government and their poor management of the situation.
The head of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council threatened to expel the Hadi government's interior minister, coinciding with the escalation of the conflict between the two parties, jeopardizing the Riyadh Agreement.
