Azerbaijan shelling Armenia using artillery, drone strikes: Yerevan
The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border continues to be tense.
Using strike drones, mortars and artillery, Azerbaijani forces shelled Armenia on Wednesday morning, according to Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman, Aram Torosyan.
"The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border overnight into September 14 continued to be tense. In particular, the enemy used drones in the direction of Jermuk. Although no significant incidents were recorded in other areas, today, starting at 08:00 [04:00 GMT], the enemy used artillery mortars and large-caliber weapons, in particular in the direction of Jermuk and Verin Shorzha," Torosyan said.
On Tuesday, Azerbaijani soldiers advanced along various areas of the border, renewing violent clashes.
According to Torosyan, Armenian servicemen were killed and others were injured in an armed encounter near the border with Azerbaijan. "There are dead and wounded on the Armenian side. The data is being specified," Torosyan said.
He said Azerbaijani troops were also delivering strikes at civilian infrastructure facilities.
Earlier, both sides exchanged blame, with Yerevan accusing the Azerbaijani military of shelling the territory of Armenia late on Monday using artillery and drones. On its part, Baku said the Armenian military fired at the positions of the Azerbaijani troops on the border, resulting in a clash. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry also reported losses in its ranks.
On Tuesday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said a total of 49 Armenian soldiers were killed as a result of shelling on the border with Azerbaijan.
