Bagheri Kani Talks to Al Mayadeen on Tehran's Conditions
Iran's lead negotiator in the Vienna Talks, Ali Bagheri Kani, announces in a statement to Al Mayadeen, his country's readiness to suspend "remedial measures if the other side will remove their measures."
Iran's lead negotiator in the Vienna talks, Ali Bagheri Kani, announced on Friday that his country is willing to suspend remedial measures if the opposing side removes their measures that violated the nuclear deal.
Bagheri Kani told Al Mayadeen that "since we have presented the two drafts, we've held several meetings with the other teams in Vienna," adding that "we expect the other teams to give us their legal answers and logical arguments to our suggestions."
Iran had presented two drafts during yesterday's talks on sanctions removal and Iran's nuclear commitments.
The Deputy Foreign Minister noted that "we are negotiating to reach a comprehensive deal that would pave the ground for the party that withdrew from the deal to rejoin it," confirming that "our goal is the lifting of the US' unjust and illegal sanctions."
He also noted that these meetings are to set the proper conditions so that the US can again have the competence to rejoin the deal.
Al Mayadeen's Vienna correspondent had reported earlier today that the "P4+1 and Iran will hold a final meeting for this round of talks this afternoon," adding that the diplomats intend to return home for consultations.
Abdollahian: The West must take its real initiative in ending sanctions
Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein AmirAbdollahian, discussed the talks with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, saying "Our team has clear, tangible and practical plans and initiatives at every stage.
AmirAbdollahian also said that "the West must also take its real initiative in ending the sanctions and put an end to the repetition of previous slogans that violate the rights and interests of the Iranian people."
"We believe that a good agreement is available, but it requires a change in the approach of some parties from the literature of threat to the literature of cooperation, mutual respect and results," he said.
Borrell: All sides must be flexible in the continuation of the talks
The EU Foreign Policy chief, on his part, noted that the talks are important as all parties, "especially the Islamic Republic of Iran, are now working hard to reach an agreement in Vienna."
"I have emphasized to Enrique Mora to work constructively and actively with the senior Iranian negotiator and all delegations to reach an agreement." He called for flexibility on all sides in the continuation of the talks.
The nuclear talks had been on a 5-month hiatus; the 7th round resumed on Monday.
