Beirut files UN complaint over Israeli breach of sovereignty, airspace
Lebanon's permanent mission to the UN says "Israel" is violating international humanitarian law provisions banning "all methods of collective punishment and psychological intimidation."
Lebanon's permanent mission to the United Nations submitted a formal complaint on Monday against the Israeli air violations of the country's airspace.
"[These violations] constitute a flagrant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and airspace, and of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (issued in 2006)," as quoted by the Lebanese National News Agency NNA.

The Israeli air force hostilities violate international humanitarian law provisions to ban "all methods of collective punishment and psychological intimidation .. through terrorizing all civilians and spreading panic," especially among the most vulnerable parts of society, such as children, the mission added.
Since the onset of the Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip in October 2023 and the escalation along the Lebanon-occupied Palestine border area, the Israeli air strikes on southern towns and villages and killing and wounding of civilians have become frequent.
More recently, Israelis have repeatedly broke the sound barrier over most Lebanese regions, including Beirut.
Lebanon has filed several official complaints to the UN against the Israeli aggressions and crimes in the past ten months.
In February, Lebanon’s permanent mission to the UN lodged in February a formal complaint to the UN Security Council against the Israeli attacks in South Lebanon.
The submitted complaint followed an Israeli drone strike on a residential building in the city of Nabatiyeh, southern Lebanon, resulting in the martyrdom of 10 people, including women and children.
The mission stated then that these strikes amount to a "war crime".
"While international humanitarian law guarantees protection of civilians and civilian facilities, Israel’s deliberate and direct bombing of civilians in their homes is considered a violation of international humanitarian law and amounts to a war crime," the complaint stated, adding that the airstrikes are “considered a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, as well as the safety of its lands and citizens."
It further emphasized that these attacks "breach upon all United Nations resolutions that require Israel to stop its violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and end its occupation of Lebanese lands, including Resolution 1701 (2006).”
