Ben Salem: Launching a New Political Party Possible
The leader of the Ennahda movement, Mohamed Ben Salem, says that the current leadership of the movement cannot reach solutions with President Kais Saied.
Mohamed Ben Salem, leader in the Tunisian Ennahda movement, announced that the current leadership of the movement cannot reach solutions with President Kais Saied because of what he described as the movement's 'repetitive provocations of the president.'
Ben Salem called on the Tunisian president to start holding Ennahda movement accountable in case some of its leaders were found to be corrupt. He added that some leaders of the movement have close relations with corrupt people, and some of them have even resigned.
He also explained that Kais Saied's refusal to receive some ministers (who were nominated by the Ennahda movement) to take the constitutional oath, due to floating suspicions of corruption. This further complicated the relationship between Saied and Ennahda.
Ben Salem suggested that it is possible to overcome the current crisis in a number of ways. They can be through compromise and dialogue between the political community and the presidency, or through a political alliance that defends freedoms and democracy (in case political parties were dissolved); however, not between Ennahda and Saied.
The Former Minister of Agriculture affirmed that the idea of dialogue with the president is currently not ready - not under the current leadership of the movement. He also said that whenever internal elections are held, the reformists win, saying that when the decision is limited to a small circle, pressures mount.
Ben Salem also called on Rachid Ghannouchi to delegate leadership to the party's youth to include them in solving the country's problems, while also warning that launching a new party is a possible idea in case the movement does not "take a step back."
It is noteworthy that yesterday, Thursday, Tunisian President Kais Saied announced that the formation of the new government will be announced during the upcoming few days.
