Biden Apologizes for Trump's Decision
US President Joe Biden says, “I guess I shouldn’t apologize, but I do apologize for the fact the United States in the last administration pulled out of the Paris accords."
On Monday, US President Joe Biden apologized for the Trump administration's withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement in 2017.
“I guess I shouldn’t apologize, but I do apologize for the fact the United States in the last administration pulled out of the Paris accords and put us sort of behind the eight ball a little bit,” Biden said during a session on “action and solidarity” at the United Nations climate conference in Glasgow.
In February, shortly after Joe Biden was elected president, the United States rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement. Biden promised to double the nationally determined commitment proposed by former President Barack Obama, amounting to a 28 percent reduction in US gas emissions by 2025.
Biden stated in April that the US would cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 as part of a fresh commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement, which his predecessor had abandoned in 2017.
He pointed out that the American people did not believe 4 or 5 years ago that changes in the climate occurred, but now they understand the urgent need to deal with this problem.
It is worth noting that Republican Trump, during his tenure as US President in 2017, announced the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, but his successor, Democrat Biden, signed in 2020 a decree stipulating the return of his country to the list of countries party to the document.
