Biden Approval Rating Plummets
Only 9 months into his presidency, the US president approval rating is at a historic low.
The approval rating of US President Joe Biden plummets, reaching the low level of his predecessor Donald Trump.
A new NBC poll revealed that 54% of Americans, more than half the nation, disapprove of the incumbent president’s performance. These negative numbers come right ahead of the midterm elections, which could signal a seismic shift in voting preferences.
Moreover, the “favorable/unfavorable” rating of Biden is highly similar to the numbers Trump previously got in a previous NBC survey: 40 percent positive, 48 percent negative for Biden in comparison to his predecessor’s 38 percent positive, 50 percent negative. Comparing these numbers with the rating Biden had during the 2020 general election and one can notice a steep drop in popularity.
Taking into consideration that the campaign Biden ran was mostly based around undoing Trump’s “legacy,” the high disapproval rating highlights a strong similarity in the public perception of both administrations.
Wrong Track
The biggest shock perhaps comes from the massive pejorative views Americans are holding towards the future of their country.
In the poll, 71 percent of Americans revealed that they believe the US is heading in the wrong direction, with Biden’s own party being sternly split on the issue: This includes 48 percent of Democrats, 70 percent of independents, and 93 percent of Republicans.
The unsavory ratings come amidst Joe Biden’s attempt to close the deal on a historic expansion of government and criticism geared towards his massive $3.5 billion social infrastructure bill, as well as an impending debt ceiling crisis.
