Biden, Putin to Talk Tuesday amid Tensions over Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Joe Biden are expected to hold talks via video conference on Tuesday in light of rising tensions on Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden will be having talks via video conference on Tuesday, Kremlin said.
The talks come in light of the rising tensions over Ukraine, but the counterparts will address a wide array of issues.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the talks would take place in the evening Russian time, and the two leaders will determine the duration, Russian news agencies said.
Biden had said Friday he would make it "very, very difficult" for Russia to launch any invasion of Ukraine as Russia denies western claims of Moscow having such plans.
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, SVR, had said the US State Department was spreading false information about Russia's alleged troop buildup for a military invasion of Ukraine.
However, Washington and Kyiv claim Moscow has massed troops near Ukraine's borders and continue to accuse Russia of planning an invasion.
Biden and Putin had been expected since Friday to hold a video call.
Biden claimed before reporters in Washington to have put together "the most comprehensive and meaningful set of initiatives to make it very, very difficult for Mr. Putin to go ahead and do what people are worried he may do."
Russia and the United States have many points of conflict besides Ukraine, such as cyberattacks and the staffing of their embassies after several waves of diplomatic expulsions.
