Blinken reprimands Netanyahu for breaking promises: Israeli media
Israeli media say "Israel" establishing a permanent presence in the illegal "Homesh" settlement opposes a promise made by the Israeli government.
Israeli media reported that during a phone call, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken rebuked Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In an interview for "Israel" Hayom, Israeli political analyst Ariel Kahana said according to the Americans, "Israel" establishing a permanent presence in the illegal "Homesh" settlement, north of the occupied West Bank, opposes a promise made by the Israeli government as it was formed.
"Israel" Hayom reported that it is apparent from the statement of the US State Department that Blinken reprimanded Netanyahu for breaking promises.
The US State Department statement read that Blinken "discussed the need to uphold the commitments made at regional meetings in Aqaba and Sharm El-Sheikh to avoid measures that undermine the prospects for a two-state solution," referring to talks earlier this year in Jordan and Egypt that brought Israeli, Palestinian Authority, and US officials together.
The Israeli newspaper mentioned that Americans claim that "Israel" establishing a permanent presence in the illegal "Homesh" settlement contradicts a pledge not to establish new settlements beyond the nine settlements that were approved by the Israeli occupation government.
It is worth noting that the illegal "Homesh" settlement was created as an Israeli military post on usurped private Palestinian land in 1978 and handed over to illegal Israeli settlers in 1980. It was later evacuated as part of then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's "disengagement plan" in 2005.
Under international law, all Israeli settlements are illegal, and the United Nations Security Council has condemned Israeli settlement activities in the occupied territories in several resolutions.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in late February that Israeli-built settlements are "illegal" and they "must stop".
