Bolivian leader hails recognition of Palestine as 'act of justice'
Bolivian President Luis Arce hails the global recognition of a Palestinian state amid the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
In an interview with Sputnik, Bolivian President Luis Arce described the recognition of Palestine as a state by multiple countries as both a significant act of justice and a strong signal directed towards "Israel".
"I believe that this is, first of all, an act of justice. Palestine is a state that was not recognized as such, and, unfortunately, UN resolutions are not implemented. I think this is also a call for this genocide that is happening there to stop," Arce said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), adding that this is "a serious signal for the Israeli government."
The president emphasized that the Israeli government is facing increased pressure as all countries are swiftly moving towards creating a favorable environment for Palestine, contrary to the expected outcome of the war, which is not the "disappearance" of Palestine but rather its "recognition".
On Thursday night, The Independent revealed that the UK Labour party's manifesto will include a plan to officially recognize a Palestinian state “as part of the peace process." The audacious new initiative also takes a swing at "Israel", arguing that "neighbors should not be able to veto" the recognition of Palestine.
Two days ago, Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon announced that Slovenia has officially recognized the independence of the state of Palestine.
The majority of the Slovenian parliament voted on Tuesday for the recognition of Palestine as an independent state, disregarding a call for a referendum by the largest opposition party in government.
On May 28, Spain, Ireland, and Norway recognized the Palestinian state in separate statements.
A Spanish government spokesperson announced that Spain formally recognized a Palestinian state in a decision approved by its cabinet in parallel with similar moves by Ireland and Norway.
