Bolsonaro Probed for Linking Covid Vaccines to AIDS
Brazil's President stirs controversy on Covid vaccines by saying that COVID-19 vaccines may raise the chance of contracting AIDS,
A Brazil Supreme Court justice ordered an investigation into President Jail Bolsonaro, who said during a live broadast in October that COVID-19 vaccines may increase the chance of contracting AIDS.
Bolsonaro himself had declined to take the vaccine, and was temporarily suspended from Facebook and Youtube after his statement.
Justice Alexadre de Moraes made the decision following a request from a Senate committee, which found that Bolsonaro committed nine crimes during his handling of the pandemic, including crimes against humanity.
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS had declared that Covid vaccines are safe for many people including those living with HIV.
"In order for judicial supervision to be carried out in an effective and comprehensive manner, it is indispensable that documents be presented showing the status of the investigation in question," Moraes said.
